Acute Medical Short Stay Unit
Every day here in the Mater Foundation, we are inspired by the profound impact your support makes. Your kindness enables us to invest in a range of vital projects to benefit sick people and their families in the Mater Hospital.
In 2020, thanks to your generosity, we were able to invest €700,000 to equip the 26-bed Acute Medical Short Stay Unit (AMSSU). This Unit has increased overall bed capacity in the hospital. Crucially, it also plays a vital role in alleviating pressure on the Emergency Department by treating patients who are acutely unwell with conditions such as chronic lung disease and cardiac problems.
The Unit also helps staff provide patients with an improved patient journey, where critically-ill people can be cared for with more space, reduced overcrowding and faster treatment times.
